The wooden boards, also called planks, are used as rafters, floor joists, and other structural components. They can be glued or nailed together at various joint positions, which makes them very easy to construct. The wood is actually sliced into planks before it is cut into lengths to create the different sizes of timbers required in the construction of timber frame buildings.
After the timbers have been obtained, the boards are prepared for detailed cutting and joinery. This includes cutting the wood into lengths and the shaping and nailing them together with joint nuts and bolts. Nails are galvanized and then shaped to ensure the right angle and the perfect fit. Plastering is then applied on the exterior surface of the exterior frames of the building. Once this has been done, the interior frames are then built up around the exterior framework, and all pieces are fixed securely together using timber ties and clamps.



There are many advantages of using timber framing in construction. Firstly, the timbers are purchased in considerable quantities, which reduces costs considerably. Secondly, the timbers are prepared and processed quickly, thereby saving even more on the construction cost. Thirdly, the construction costs are highly flexible, depending on the size and shape of the building. Fourthly, timber framing requires the least amount of maintenance and the life span is significantly increased as compared to other traditional methods of construction.
